The UK telecom regulator Ofcom has issued the latest licences to ten organisations that will be able to operate services of the frequency bands 10 GHz to 40 GHz, this is fourth such auction of this kind, and will these organisations to offer other high capacity wireless services.

The tradable licences were given to Arqiva, BT, Digiweb, Faultbasic, MLL, Orange, Red-M, T-Mobile, Transfinite and UK Broadband during an online auction conducted by Ofcom between February 11 and 21, 2008.

T-Mobile has paid £321,000 to get licence for 2 x 80 MHz in 10 GHz band, 2 x 252 MHz in 32 GHz band and 2 x 250 MHz in 40 GHz band. Arqiva has paid £260,500 for 2 x 224 MHz in 28 GHz band. BT paid £183,000 for 2 x 126 MHz in 32 GHz band and Orange paid a licence fee of £272,130 for 2 x 252 MHz in 32 GHz band.

It is expected that this will create a network of better choice and competition, which should offer the consumer the services that they demand.
