Channel Fours VoD a success<br />

4oD the video on demand service from Channel Four has been deemed a big success as they are reporting that over one hundred million downloads or streams have been made, this is since its launch in December 2006. If this is compared with the BBC’s iPlayer, it has reached seventeen million since its launch in December 2007.

But with success breads more success and it is believed that the coverage that the iPlayer is getting this will encourage other people to take a look at what’s on offer and will probably download the player just to see what it is like to watch top television programmes on a computer. By word of mouth and the intense advertising that it on going video on demand is going to be very successful.

The problem that may face the channels is as they introduce more services, like Kangaroo there could be danger that the sector is flooded with choice and it is then when the true nature of the viewings will come out and there may be need to include some new programming to keep the viewers coming back for more.
