Dual-Core Sempron To Ship In China
by Rohan Parker
According to motherboard makers, AMD is upping the challenge to Intel’s dual-core Celeron line in China, by releasing a rival product, the dual-core Sempron, which like the Celeron will be aimed at the entry level market.
The first of the range, the Sempron 2100+ processors have a 65nm process and have a 1.8GHz core frequency. As this stage, the pricing in China will be around RMB 399, which is roughly US$55. This is quite a cheap mobo and because of the potential of the branded RS780 and 690G IGP chipsets made by AMD, many are showing favor to the company’s prduct and the CPU is quite popular.
Intel is expected to fight back by lowering the price on their dual-core Celeron processor, however retailers have already noted that due to the strong IGP chipsets AMD has out, they are still going to have the advantage over Intel.
