IPTV slow take up in UK
by David Allen

If we look at the BBC’s iplayer we would be mistaken in thinking that watching TV over the internet was a great success, but it seems in a recent survey that less than twenty per cent of all people in the UK who have access to broadband have actually streamed or downloaded any traditional TV programmes through their internet connection.
Out of all the big broadband services it is Virgin Media who comes out on top with twenty per cent of their users occasionally downloading programmes, while Channel Fours 4oD has been used by fifteen per cent, the BBC iPlayer stands at thirteen per cent and Joost, BT Vision and Tiscali TV all receive around four per cent.
The problem lies with down load speeds, size of monitors and the fact that many people are still unsure about downloading TV programming for viewing on their computers. At the moment it is the TV that holds centre stage in the home, but when it comes to younger people this is different, with many young opting to view certain programming on the their computers, but this is probably something to do with them wanting it be in their the rooms on their own.
