Hitachi Wooo displays coming to UK
Hitachi is planning to launch a range of ultra slim ‘TVs’ in the UK called Wooo in Japan.

Technically speaking the Hitachi 32MH70, 37MX70, 42MX70 LCD TV’s aren’t really TVs at all, as Hitachi has stripped out the TV tuners to help it achieve the slim design.

Hitachi has also reduced the size of the power supply by 33 per cent. These two measures have helped the company keep the depth of the screens to just 38mm.

The absence of TV tuners means that the displays can only receive high definition content via an HDMI port.

Sky HD or Virgin HD subscribers are already equipped with a box with HDMI out, although some Freeview boxes won’t be suitable for use with the displays.

Hitachi is providing a £380 media box with an MPEG-4/MPEG-2 Freeview Playback-capable PVR with 250GB storage, designed specifically for use with the displays.

The 720p 32MH70 is expected to cost around £1,145, the 1080p 37MX70 will be priced at around £1,900, while the 42MX70 (also 1080p) will be about £2,290.

All three models are expected to arrive in the UK this summer.
