The new partnership between the London Borough of Islington and Cityspace will provide a free wireless network being set up that will offer people in the zone free high speed internet, however it will not be all parts of the borough that will be able to pick this up.

The zone will be located in the Islington’s commercial centre which is centred around Upper St and Islington High Street, anyone not located within that area will not be able to receive this service which has been named “StreetNet” and will have its own specific landing page that will direct people to certain local government departments and other e-government services.

However there has been some complaints from the leading internet service providers, they believe that this service could undermine what they are doing to attract customers to their subscriber based network and services. But Cityspace are quick to point out that this is a public service.
