WildBlue Communications Awarded By SSPI
by Rohan Parker
At the annual Society of Satellite Professionals (SSPI) awards night WildBlue Communications Inc. were awarded with the 2008 Industry Innovator award due to a string of highly successful applications and service developments. David Leonard, WildBlue’s CEO, accpeted the award on behalf of the entire company.
Last year saw WildBlue introduce two-way broadband internet service to both homes and businesses throughout the U.S., an innovation because it used a new Ka-band satellite which the company has developed software for which allows for the reuse of frequencies within narrow spot beams and has lead to the Ka frequency being used commercially today.
This has allowed WildBlue to offer a much lower cost to their customers, due to the extensively reduced cost of servicing their clients via the Ka-band satellite.
The SSPI, who presented the award to WildBlue, are a nonprofit, member-benefit organization dedicated to servicing professionals within the satellite industry, for the entirety of their careers. This particular award was first given in 1993 and is given to those from either the public or private sector whose work - be it in designs, applications, contributions or activities - has in some way been both new and innovative as well as benefited the industry.
Those to be awarded are selected by a committee made up of experts from within the industry and come from a broad spectrum of advanced satellite technology and business based applications.
