Good show for Freeview
by David Allen

It would seem that despite all of the financial worries leading up to Christmas many people in the UK had a bit of a digital festive season. The latest sales figures for digital equipment such as TV’s, set top boxes and personal video recorders for the last quarter of the year reached record levels with more items being sold than ever before.
There were nearly four million devices that can receive the digital signal sold in the last quarter of the year, whereas the total figure for 2007 was just slightly fewer than ten million devices. If this is compared with the new subscribers gained by both Sky and Virgin Media, which stand at 167,000 and 61,100 respectively, this takes the total subscriber base for Sky to 8.8 million and for Virgin Media 4.8 million.
However one thing that the figures have appeared to leave out is the actual customer locations. This would be a way of seeing exactly how many people are converting to digital in areas that are due to switched over. These figures will be released in the next Ofcom report.
