New managing director of strategy for Virgin Media
by Lin Freestone
Following the confirmation of Neil Berkett’s role as chief executive, Virgin Media has appointed Andrew Barron as managing director of strategy to help exploit its “natural advantages”. Virgin Media considers it has some important natural advantages that the company is determined to exploit in order to grow its business and deliver a genuinely differentiated proposition that meets consumers’ changing expectations. The experience of Andrew Barron will be invaluable in helping Virgin Media meet this challenge. He will also build on the work already started as the company has increased its focus on its fast broadband and video on demand services. Andrew Barron was previously chief executive of Scandinavian satellite broadcaster Viasat and chief operating officer at its parent, Modern Times Group. Before that he worked on UPC’s video on demand operations and the Disney Channel in Europe. More senior appointments are expected to be made in the coming weeks.
