IPTV subscriptions double worldwide
by David Allen

The amount of IPTV subscribers has now reached a global high of 12.3 million this has come from research undertaken by Informa. This internet TV boom has been helped by the increase in subscribers from Western Europe. But many of the suppliers offer this service free or within a package, which may have had an effect on the figures.
In the UK IPTV is still in the early stages with BT having doubled its subscriber base to 100,000. However there is a question mark that hangs over the future of this service. Will it remain free or within the package that the subscriber opted for, or will the providers use this as a potential revenue source?
It is a matter of choice, whether customers see IPTV as a genuinely desirable service or just as a free addition to their packages, which they have never used or may have taken a short peek at. However there is no desire to use IPTV as their primary source of TV viewing. But if a customer has to pay for something then they are more likely to use it, just as a point of principle.
