Irish TV to return to the UK<br />

With over a million Irish ex pats living in the UK it’s not a surprise that since the demise of Tara TV they have been missing catching up with the news and programming from home. But as it was St Patrick’s Day what could have been better for them than the Irish Government’s Communications Minister Eamon Ryan announcing that “Diaspora TV” will be launched by this time next year.

This new channel which is going to be from the Irish public broadcast channel RTE will be broadcast via the free to air satellite platform Freesat. Programming will obviously be coming from RTE One and RTE Two, but will also feature other shows from TG4, which is the Gaelic language channel, along with the news being supplied by The One, Six One, and Nine O’clock.

This time the channel has more chance of surviving, unlike when this was tried before with Tara TV there was some sort of disagreement between the channel and the operators UPC, and of course the market then was mostly analogue and therefore they had limited options.
