Nvidia May Acquire VIA
by Rohan Parker
According to motherboard manufacturers, Nvidia had engaged in talks with VIA technologies to see if an acquisition of the company could go ahead, however no agreement was reached due to the substantial price demanded by VIA.
Apparently, three options were put on the table. The first was that Nvidia and VIA enter into a strategic alliance. The second was that Nvidia acquire only the processor division of VIA. The third was that Nvidia acquire the entirety of VIA Technologies. Though no deal was reached this time, VIA is expected to come back to the table with a lower price as they keep making losses.
The response from Nvidia is that they do not comment on rumors.
The response from VIA is similar; they have stated that there is no plan to have Nvidia acquire any part of the company and that they do not have any plan to reduce their capital, as suggested by Chinese-language media sources. VIA also stated that their primary focus is x86 CPUs and chipsets and therefore they have no intention of selling off any of these segments.
