Respected consultancy company Euroconsult has issued a report entitled “Satellite TV Platforms, World Survey & Prospects to 2017”. In which it states there are now ninety two satellite-based pay-TV platforms operating across the globe. These operators now reach 95 million homes, and Euroconsult forecasts that the audience for DTH (direct to home broadcasts) should grow steadily, and by 2017 will have nearly doubled their subscriber base to around 180 million. The study also believes that the new threats from different technologies in particular TV delivered via the internet (IPTV). Will not affect DTH’s steady expansion, and that the delivery system is in a better position than ever before. Pacôme Revillon from Euroconsult says that, “We’ve seen an unprecedented increase in the number of satellite TV platforms worldwide since the early days of the industry, with 35 platforms launched in the last three years,” He went on to say that there currently in excess of 1000 TV channels being delivered via satellite TV across the world. And that he believes that continued new channel launches will stimulate a steady growth in subscribers. He went on to say “Despite greater economic uncertainty in the short term, market drivers for satellite TV are going in the right direction, and close to 180 million subscribers to satellite pay-TV are expected by 2017 according to our research,”
