BBC on pole position for F1
by David Allen

In what can only be described as a surprise move as from next year Formula One will be shown on the BBC. This is a surprise for several reasons, the main one being that ITV the channel who are currently showing the 2008 Grand Prix season were supposed to have the rights until the end of the 2010 season.
This announcement came literally out of nowhere, with the not even any speculation about a channel change. But it seems that Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone feels that the BBC can offer a better service, and there are thousands of F1 fans in the UK who would agree. After all what other live sport actually has a commercial break in it?
It is not just the breaks either, the BBC is really forging ahead with multi platform viewing, F1 is particularly suited to this type of viewing, where fans can watch via the internet, iPlayer, radio and possibly even mobile media too. It’s an exciting time for BBC Sport and this is a real coup for them.
