COM DEV to Join EADS Astrium Team
by Rohan Parker
COM DEV International Ltd has embarked on a joint venture with EADS Astrium, to supply the new Eutelsat KA-SAT with multiplexer and switch equipment.
The contract awarded to COM DEV earns them US$4.7 million for their assistance in getting the comsat in the air by mid-2010. The Eutelsat KA-SAT is the keystone in a large-scale satellite infrastructure plan which will greatly expand broadband services capacity for Europe and the Mediterranean.
Both local and regional satellite TV capabilities will also be increased by Eutelsat going up, which is expected to be configured with over 80 spotbeams and networked with 8 gateways.
The Eutelsat is the first Ka-band only satellite network to be made for Europe.
