Intel Cuts Cost Of Entry Level Desktop
by Rohan Parker
According to motherboard manufacturers, Intel is moving fast to ensure that AMD do not get the lion’s share of the low-cost desktop market with their new Sempron processors, by reducing the cost of their entry level machines, the Atom 230 processor, down to US$29. This price is for thousand-unit tray quantities.
The same sources state that Intel should be releasing the new CPU later this year, and that Asustek’s E-DT desktops are to incorporate them. Other low cost desktop manufacturers are expected to follow suit soon after.
Intel has declined to confirm or deny the claims, as they cannot comment on products or pricing which is not yet officially announced.
