Velocix, which provides the world’s leading Digital Asset Delivery Network, has introduced a new revolutionary hybrid-P2P live streaming solution, through a partnership with Adobe and Microsoft.
The Velocix Network enables content owners, studios, and broadcasters to deliver digital content, including video, software, games and audio, over the Internet.
The new Live Streaming product family includes Velocix Live Video Streaming for Adobe Flash and Microsoft Windows Media, together with Velocix Live Audio Streaming.
The new hybrid-P2P live streaming option provides scalability to the largest global audiences for online video and audio events and broadcasts, while also helping to save costs.
Streaming live events is more complex than providing on-demand services for pre-recorded materials, as live services result in concentrated demand from a potentially large audience just for the duration of the event. This can lead to quality being compromised, or the audience size being limited.
Velocix’s innovative Live Streaming service includes a hybrid-P2P option, which blends delivery of live streams from the Velocix Network caches as well as sharing bandwidth with peers.
While each participant is watching or listening to the live broadcast, they are also simultaneously relaying the signal to the other audience members.
This process is managed by control and routing algorithms hosted on the Velocix Network, ensuring a high-quality of service.
