A new study by Forrester Research has found that Mozilla’s Firefox browser is gaining market share from Microsoft’s IE7, in the enterprise sector.

The study, of over 50,000 large enterprise employees, found that during 2007, Internet Explorer’s enterprise-market share fell 10%, while Firefox’s share grew from 9.8% to 18%.

The study also found that many enterprises are still using Internet Explorer 6 instead of moving to IE7, which was released in October 2006. IE6 was still used by 55.2% of companies, as of December 2007, while only 23.4% of companies used IE7.

In comparison, Mozilla’s Firefox 2.0 version, almost completely replaced Firefox version 1.5.

Microsoft is advising companies who haven’t yet adopted IE7 to upgrade to the latest version rather than wait for the browser’s next version, IE8.
