vizio-gv52lf.jpgVizio’s GV52LF HDTV, is a 52-inch LCD monster that has posted and earned high scores in most tests and reviews done to it. it’s not surprising coming from a manufacturer that really tries to give consumers their all. The GV52LF more popular features include picture-in-picture, four HDMI ports, and an extremely available price.

For most HDTV’s, Standard Definition content is either left out or forgotten altogether. What I mean is, most HDTV in the market, because of its name, displays High Definition signal beautifully. However, when it comes to Standard Definition content, HDTV’s tend to suffer. But that is not the case with the GV52LF. Both high-definition and standard-def TV looked sharp and natural on the screen. It produces true-to-life skin tones and few digital artifacts in the background while high definition movies looked crisp and vibrant.

The Vizio GV52LF includes four HDMI inputs that allows high definition fans to connect several devices, such as an HD player, a cable box, and an HD DVR. The set even has built-in speakers which is definitely a plus even if it does not produce the best sound. A glossy black bezel surrounds the set, which sits on top of silver speakers and a silver stand, producing an eye-catching contrast.

The backlit, sensibly organized remote has numbered buttons on the top, a navigational wheel in the middle, and a few direct-input buttons near the bottom. It’s mostly black with a small block of brushed silver at the bottom, neatly matching the TV. A detailed user manual, printed in color on glossy paper, accompanies the set and comprehensively explains the TV and remote functions.

Given its price, the Vizio GV52LF is definitely a bargain. However, it still delivers competitive performance and enough attractive options to deserve the attention of consumers shopping for a good value-for-money HDTV.

  1. No surprise–I was SDTV more often than HDTV and owned a GV52LF that I bought from Costco late last year. I loved it–and completely agree with these results. The problem I had was a quarky problem with tuning between standard cable signals and HD cable signals (like “over-the-air”, except via coaxial). Vizio offered to repair the TV’s tuner, but after only 80 days I decided to return it for another identical set. Unfortunately, the TV was no longer available in a local store in my area (distribution problems?), so I turned to Toshiba’s 52″ REGZA, which I also now love. The built-in sound isn’t quite as good as Vizio’s, but the picture and tuner are a good alternative for a similar price. For SDTV watchers–I recommend staying away from the Sharp Aquos 52″, in which we experienced significant SDTV tuner problems.
