Book piracy could hurt authors

Book piracy could hurt authors<br />

What we have seen with music, film and software is about to move into the arena of the written word, with the Society of Authors fearing that online book piracy could affect the livelihoods of many up and coming authors.

With more and content becoming available online, it seems that books could be the next big thing. This follows search giant Google’s announcement that they would be making all books available on the internet when they publish free e-copies of books. Although it is Amazon who started the trend by publishing samples, this did lead to an increase in book sales though.

This is another industry that will have to get to grips with the internet and the people who spend most of their time on it. It would no good to start another war against suppliers or readers of books; instead it would be a good idea if they just embraced the technology and worked with the likes of Google and Amazon. There will always be a market for a freshly printed book, but additionally there are new customers who would like to read online.
