Ofcom to look into miss selling
by David Allen

The media regulator Ofcom launched an investigation in 2005 into the way that the communications industry sold its products, as there were many complaints from consumers regarding such tactics as Slamming - which is where a service is switched without the user knowing, the lack of details regarding length of contract etc, where it is made difficult for users to switch and pretending to be other companies.
During 2005 there were around 1,200 complaints per month regarding one or more of these problems, but just three years later the complaints have fallen to only 350 per month, which is high enough but is definitely a marked improvement.
But it would seem that Ofcom will be changing their investigations into the area of new products, as there have been many new additions to the marketplace since 2005, this has given rise to a new wave of complaints especially as there are more exchanges moving over to the control of individual companies and the consumer needs to know that there is someone fighting in their corner when there is a dispute.
