HP introduces Mini-Note PC
by Janet Harris
HP has officially announced the HP 2133 Mini-Note PC, which is designed with school students in mind and has a starting price of under $500.
The PC weighs just over two and a half pounds, so it won’t weigh down a school bag too much, and has a 8.9-inch diagonal WXGA display, full QWERTY keyboard and touchpad.
Despite its small size, the notebook doesn’t compromise on functionality.
It includes a suite of wireless, multimedia and security capabilities, and there is even an optional integrated VGA webcam to capture video and still images.
Connectivity options include integrated Wi-Fi Certified WLAN(3) and optional Bluetooth™, for browsing the Internet, email, IM, chat, VOIP and blogging.
The HP 2133 Mini-Note PC also features two USB slots, an ExpressCard/54 slot, and an SD card reader.
The machine is designed to be strong enough to cope with the rough and tumble of the school environment, with a lightweight but sturdy anodised aluminium shell.
HP 3D DriveGuard technology shuts down the hard drive upon sudden movement or shock by using a three-axis digital accelerometer chip, and a scratch resistant display and HP DuraKeys provide additional durability.
While the model was designed for the education market, HP is also promoting the machine to mobile professionals.
