Hyundai 3D HDTV launched in Japan

Hyundai’s first 3D-capable HDTV has gone on sale in 23 shops in Japan today.

The 46-inch model has a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 1,200:1 contrast ratio and two HDMI inputs.

It produces a 3D image using stereoscopics – the rapid display of two different images, one for the viewer’s left eye, the other for the right eye.

The set comes with two pairs of special spectacles which the viewer has to wear in order to see the broadcast in 3D.

Japanese cable company BS11 Digital will transmit experimental 3D broadcasts which the set will be able to receive.

Hyundai’s 3D set is selling for ¥498,000 (around £2,400).
