Isle of Wight Ferries to offer broadband
by David Allen

The ferry service Wrightlink which links the Isle of Wight with Portsmouth and Lymington in southern England, is to offer all of their passenger’s access to the internet via the Moorbox M Series which will also supply a ship wide Ethernet system for use by the crew.
Computer users will be able to use the system which can provide internet connection speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps by utilising the 3G HSPA mobile broadband network provided by T Mobile.
The Wrightlink ferry service carries over five million passengers, one million cars and two hundred thousand coaches and lorries every year. There is clearly a fixed market for this service as the freight businesses can keep track of their vehicles as well as business and personal users too.
This is just another example of how a business involved in the travel and transport sector introducing a service that benefits their customers and well as themselves as the system can be used by the crew to access online resources as and when needed.
