Interest grows for BSkyB’s Stake in ITV

by David Allen

With BSkyB looking as if they will have no option but the sell their 17.9% in ITV, selling the stake for a reasonable price could still be a serious problem for BSkyB.

But instead of there being a total slump in the share price, there are in fact some well heeled suitors lining up to take the stake off their hands.

The favourites to buy the stake are the Euro media owners of Five, RTL and the person who brought the Power Rangers to our television screens and made them a powerful brand, Haim Saban.

But BSkyB are going to have to take a huge hit on the value of the ITV stake.

They paid a seriously high price of £940 million back in the later part of 2006.

However it is estimated that the actual value of the ITV stake today, could be around £300 million!

RTL may have similar problems with the competition commission because of the company’s other UK channel, Five.

This could leave the door wide open for Haim Saban to walk away with the prize.
