ITV offers programmes through iTunes

by David Allen

We knew that ITV could not wait much longer to capitalise on what the BBC and Channel Four have done, and that is making their archives available to anyone to view through the Apple iTunes store.

On demand TV is growing so fast that channels simply cannot afford to ignore this platform any more. ITV will initially be providing up to two hundred and sixty hours of archived programmes, such as: Brideshead Revisited, Goodnight Mr Tom, Cold Feet, Captain Scarlet, Lewis, Inspector Morse, The Prisoner, The Saint and Jane Austen’s Emma and Northanger Abbey.

ITV.com was getting over two million viewers before the launch of the BBC’s iPlayer last year, but the success of the iPlayer has really pushed the on demand services to an all time high.

The initial 260 hours of programming is just a taster for fans of classic shows as they have thousands of hours of programming in their archives, all with a starting price of £1.89 per episode.
