WorkLight raises $12 million for expansion

by Janet Harris

Israel-based Web 2.0 company, WorkLight Inc, has secured $12 million in venture capital funding, which will allow it to expand in North America, Europe and Asia.

The funding round, which was led by Pitango Venture Capital of Israel, attracted further investment from Genesis Partners, Index Ventures and Shlomo Kramer, the CEO of Imperva.

Worklight will now be able to expand its Web 2.0 tools, which allow enterprises to utilise consumer technologies as business tools, including social networks, desktop widgets, social bookmarking, and RSS.

The company’s server-based software product allows companies to use these consumer platforms behind the corporate firewall, using internal IT controls for total security.

Worklight’s most recent offering is Workbook, an overlay for social network site Facebook, which enables employees to use Facebook for collaboration, access to enterprise applications and knowledge sharing.
