A million households to get 24 Mbps

by David Allen

Very soon there will be up to one million households in the UK who in theory can expect to get a 24 Mbps broadband connection.

This super fast broadband access is being slowing rolled out across the country and by this time next year could be available to ten million households throughout the country.

This is occurring because BT Wholesale will be offering internet service providers the new ADSL2+ as from this week.

It is believed that O2, Sky and other ISP’s have already been installing their own equipment at the exchanges ready for the launch.

However the same old problem will remain and that is the theoretical speed of 24 Mbps will be advertised by the ISP’s, but once again the speed figure will also have the words “up to” somewhere.

The speed will be determined by the user’s location and distance from the exchange; the further away the slower the speed.
