Operators still need SS7 support
by Jan Harris
In a survey by signalling infrastructure company, Adax Europe, 72% of respondents said that they regarded support for their Signaling System 7 (SS7) infrastructure as essential.
SS7 is a system which places the information needed to set up and manage public switched telephone network telephone calls in a separate network, instead of the network that the call is made in.
This allows the calls to be set up more securely and efficiently, and makes it easier to add services such as call forwarding.
Adax Europe has found that while more and more operators are moving over to IP networks, 72% of those surveyed were still utilising their SS7 infrastructure and felt that it was important that infrastructure should be backward compatible.
The survey supports Adax Europe’s strategy to continue to develop SS7 productions alongside SIGTRAN (SS7 over IP).
