The Vizio Gallevia GV42LF has made a very good impression in a lot of television review sites online. It particularly did a good job on image-quality category. It is handles DVD and blue-laser/high-def discs particularly well and does a fine job with every other feature an HDTV set should have. Users would probably be impressed with the set’s vivid colors specially when displaying standard definition content.

But the best thing about this TV, is its cheap. It has a very competitive price when compared to its contemporaries in the electronic consumers market. So, given this, you might expect a stripped down set with no features at all right? Wrong. It is full-featured set with all the necessary functions built-in. It even has a picture-in-picture, but you can’t watch two channels simultaneously off the TV’s single tuner.

Setting up the Gallevia GV42LF is not an easy task. All of the connection options are located at the back and all of them faces down. There are no side inputs included on the set and the connection panel – as mentioned is located in the back – is placed too low that makes it a bit difficult to access.

The on-screen menus display small, blue text against a blue background. Vizio provides a setup wizard to help you get started, but once you run it, you can never run it again.

The backlighting on Vizio’s Gallevia GV42LF remote makes finding buttons in the dark a breeze. However, the remote is not programmable so that might be a turn-off for some users, depending on their viewing tastes.
