Friday 23rd is Silver Surfers Day
by David Allen

It is the seventh year of the Silver Surfers Day (SSD) and it is still going strong, being held tomorrow.
This is a day when the estimated ten million strong group of people over 55, who are interested in finding out about all things to do with the internet, are helped to do so.
There was a time not that long ago when this group of people were virtually being written off by the rest of society as being too old to learn any new tricks. But a group that expands to ten million simply cannot be ignored.
In fact over the past few year these Silver Surfers have actually embraced the new technology to the extent that the over fifties now make up around thirty per cent of all web users, with seventeen per cent downloading music, twenty two using a digital music player, nearly eighty per cent visiting YouTube, and finally only a low seven per cent writing a blog entry.
