Champions League big hit for ITV

by David Allen

When a high profile game like the Champions League Cup Final between Man Utd and Chelsea goes into extra time its bad news for everyone except it would seem ITV, for the extra time meant extra cash, around £1 million extra in fact.

In total it is believed that ITV made around £10 million for the entire match from advertising, which just goes to prove why there is so much competition for the TV rights of the Champions League in the first place.

The viewing figures for the game were also impressive, seventeen million in total shared between Sky Sports and ITV 1, however there were over fourteen and half million viewers watching the match on ITV.

This underlines the importance of Football for the broadcasters and advertisers too, though these figures do not include those fans who watched the game in pubs and clubs.
