Doubts over the future of News at Ten

by David Allen

The are problems on the horizon for the main ITV news programme “The News at Ten”.

It was brought back by Michael Grade and the addition of Sir Trevor McDonald was believed to make the programme as popular as it used to be, however the viewing figures have not been spectacular, throwing doubts on it future.

As if that was not bad enough the presenter Sir Trevor is said to be thinking of leaving the programme shortly after the US presidential elections, which are being held in November of this year.

With the BBC bringing in a news bulletin at the same time on BBC1, the competition went the BBC’s way as they were getting twice as many viewers as the News at Ten.

It would appear that the timeslot is not as popular as it used to be, especially with 24 Hour news available.
