The BSkyB and Virgin battle to end?
by David Allen

In recent times there cannot have been a rivalry to match that of BSkyB and Virgin Media within the TV sector and yet could this dispute be coming to end? The people at BSkyB say no, but there could be a reason for that, are they planning to take over Virgin Media and end this dispute once and for all?
The rumour mills are churning and the talk is of a £600 million bid for Virgin Media, a deal like this would consolidate BSkyB’s position as the number one pay for TV provider in the UK.
But clearly it is not going to be that easy for BSkyB to get their hands on Virgin Media, there are other things for them to consider.
The BBC have already stated that they would be interested in taking on UKTV of which they already own fifty per cent, so this would mean that the BBC would either have to sell their stake or take the whole of UKTV over.
But would they be able to? It looks as if BSkyB will be able to takeover Virgin Media if they want to, the question is do they want to?
