BSkyB to be careful about their adverts
by David Allen

Last year BSkyB ran an advertising campaign which clearly attacked BT’s products and services.
A complaint was lodged with The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), as BT believed that the adverts that BSkyB was using at time were wrong and did not offer a true representation of BT.
The background to the adverts were to do with the prices of their services and how BT had apparently increased their charges compared to Sky customers, who were receiving a better deal.
However, the price of the services had nothing to with the complaint.
BT was complaining about the wording of the adverts. They said that it implied that BT had misled their customers, not by accident, but intentionally!
BSkyB insisted that the adverts were fair, but the ASA did not agree.
BSkyB have been told by the ASA, not to use this type of approach in any more advertising.
