BT wins £35 million network contract

by David Allen

BT is to expand the Irish mobile operator 3 Ireland’s network after winning the contract valued at around £35 million.

The mobile operator is looking to expand its network and at the same time make it faster for their subscribers.

By investing into the development of the network infrastructure it is thought that not only will they be able to offer a faster connection speed, but also increase the speed of their mobile broadband network too.

The investment will see the company’s phone masts boosted by ten fold, from 70 to 770; they should be able to significantly increase their subscriber base which currently stands at around 80,000.

BT will be providing the technology to enable 3 Ireland to offer a mobile broadband connection speed of 7.2 Mbps, but the way that the technology is going it is expected to be increased to 14.4 Mbps within the year.
