Promos made by Gorillaz for the BBC

by David Allen

The BBC are pulling out all of the plugs this summer as they prepare for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and are sending hundreds of staff over to China.

But the corporation are going to have to splash out on some pretty spectacular promos, just in case there is anyone in the UK who doesn’t know that the Olympics are on this summer.

Out of all the musical talent to choose from, the BBC have gone for a pretend animated band which goes under the name Gorillaz. To give them credit the band is fairly well known having several hits a while ago.

The band was formed by Damon Albarn from Blur and the animator Jamie Hewlett, and will be responsible for the opening sequences and the music for this year’s Olympics.

For the BBC, this will give them something different to the normal title sequences used.

This new direction may prove to be a winner with the younger viewers, while the traditional sports fan may wonder what is going on!
