11 million Blu-ray discs sold
by Janet Harris

Sales of Blu-ray discs have passed the 11 million mark since the HD format was launched in 2006, according to new figures from Redhill Group
Blu-ray sales have quadrupled since May 2008, helped by the demise of the rival HD DVD format, and have strengthened significantly in the first few months of 2008.
However, although Blu-ray is taking the West by storm, rival Red-ray technology is taking off in China according to CCID, a Chinese consultation group.
Red-ray is cheaper to manufacture than Blu-ray, but there is still a shortage of factories to manufacture the components to produce Red-ray players.
