BT spread wireless across the UK
by David Allen

The BT FON system is an interesting concept, to which around a hundred thousand BT Total broadband customers have signed up already.
They have agreed to share a little bit of their broadband connection to create a wireless hotspot.
With over a hundred thousand of these wireless hotspots around the country, plus a further three thousand BT Openzone hotspots, this could in effect cover a large area for users to make use of.
In return for sharing their broadband connection, BT customers get access to the BT FON network while they are travelling around the UK, under the BT FON blanket, which takes in thirteen wireless cities.
The network is being limited to BT Total subscribers; however it is highly likely that other ISPs may be able to join the BT FON network later on in the year.
