Complaints about Kangaroo to Ofcom

by David Allen

With the launch of the collaboration between the BBC, ITV and Channel Four, which has been called Kangaroo, almost within sight, a complaint has been lodged with the media regulator Ofcom from two of the new service’s main rivals, Sky and Virgin Media.

The claim is that this new service has the potential to damage the already fragile VoD marketplace by creating a situation where viewers will only need to go to one place to watch their favourite shows, and there is also concern over the way that the already shrinking advertising budgets are being spent.

The competition feel that despite requests, the channels involved in Kangaroo have not allowed their content to be available on either Sky’s or Virgin Media’s on demand platform. This is what is causing the concern.

It would seem that there is still some way to go before Kangaroo is unleashed onto the viewing public.
