BBC News saga continues

by David Allen

The BBC Trust are in place to make sure that the BBC is run in accordance to the rules laid down, but recently there have been some strong words about how news from around the country is not being shown on the main news programmes.

This leaves the regions feeling left out and should not really happen.

But now, in what would seem to be an addition to this, the Director General, Mark Thompson has told the Welsh Assembly’s broadcast committee that the regions, and indeed the other national news teams in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are keeping back the best stories from their patch for themselves.

There is a definite problem at the BBC News, where the national news centre is not covering the stories that originate in the regions, whereas on the other hand it is claimed that the regions are not handing over the top stories anyhow, as they are choosing to save them for their own slots first.
