EU mobile broadband roaming charge dropped

by David Allen

It will come as relief for all users of mobile broadband who travel to mainland Europe that the charges for data roaming are to be dropped quite considerably following the European Union’s Commissioner, Viviane Reding’s directive.

The ruling was basically that if the mobile phone operators didn’t lower the charges for accessing the internet for their customers while they are abroad, then she would be bringing in new laws which would force them to cut the prices.

In response, T Mobile has decided to act on this before they are forced to do something about it.

They have reduced their price for data usage from £7.50 per Mb down to £1.50 per Mb and for SMS messaging the prices will fall from 40p per text to 25p per text while in Europe.

These new prices will begin on the 1st July.
