Virgin Media under fire over bullet advert

by David Allen

An advertising campaign organised by Virgin Media has come under the scrutiny of the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) because of several complaints received from the general public.

The campaign uses the mail to send a plain white envelope that has no markings on it anywhere, which is unusual for this type of advertising.

However there is something strange up in the right hand corner, it’s a hole that goes right through which is surrounded with burn marks.

Many complaints were received by concerned people who felt that the bullet hole effect is not suitable to be put through people’s letter boxes.

But the ASA went on the side of Virgin Media and only told them that they need to point out on the outside that marketing material is contained within the envelope.
