No secret testing at Virgin Media

by David Allen

Despite all of the claims to the contrary, Virgin Media are denying that they have been conducting secret tests that will target usenet downloaders and P2P users.

If this were true it would mean that Virgin Media could change internet traffic priorities to suit their company policies, if they had any that is.

This involves the use of Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology which some ISPs like Tiscali already employ to manage their customers’ internet activity.

It is normally used by companies where price is the key to the network running.

However in a statement a spokesperson from Virgin Media denies that they use DPI to manage customers’ online usage.
