Next-gen iPlayer revealed

Janet Harris

The BBC is launching a beta version of the next-generation iPlayer, a service which allows viewers to access catch-up television programmes via a PC.

The new version, which fully integrates television and radio, will run alongside the original version for a while.

It will give users free access to BBC TV and radio programmes, on-demand and all in one place.

As well as a ‘listen again’ service, live radio programmes will also be available.

The playback screen for television programmes has been enlarged to provide a better viewing experience and the user interface has been upgraded with additional functions.

Viewers will now be able to see the most recent programmes they have watched via a ‘last played’ section, and will be able to continue playing content which has previously been paused.
