BBC should stop buying US exports

by David Allen

BSkyB say that the BBC should not be allowed to buy any of the big films and top TV shows from the American studios.

They simply should not be allowed to spend public money in an attempt to get the highest bid for studios in the US, for programmes like Heroes and Mad Men.

BSkyB feel that these actions from the BBC are actually not doing the UK television market any good at all, apart from driving costs up for the other commercial providers.

The costs are then passed onto the customers, who have to pick up tab for the channel’s increased spending on programming and films.

They are also critical of Channel Four’s campaign for pubic cash.

It is suggested that if they did not spend huge amounts on hit programmes like Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, then maybe their funding problems would not be as bad as they currently are.
