The deployment of IPTV on a global scale by local telecom operators has had an increase, helped by them working together with electronics manufacturers and network providers as members of the Open IPTV forum, which will be releasing details on its first specification.
Telefónica headquarters, Madrid, was the location for the Open IPTV Forum’s meeting, where the pan-industry initiative was established, which is designed to release the interactive and extended services that IPTV has to offer.
Companies that will be joining the list of highly educated individuals in the field include, to name a few, Ericsson, FT Group, Nokia Siemens Networks, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony and Telecom Italia.
To add to the 37 members already in the Forum, 11 new members have appeared on the scene this year, including Access Company, BeeTV, FastWeb, Digital Fountain, Intel, InterTrust Technology Corporation, Motorola, Opera Software, Thomson, Swisscom and ZyXEL.
The group as a whole aims to complete the new specification in time for the target date of September this year, which will be aimed at reducing the current fragmentation problem with the market.
Members of the forum will be speaking at a range of events, from trade fairs to forum meetings and major international events, in an effort to raise awareness and increase the activity of the forum and its members.
