ABI predicts 1 million wireless HDTVs by 2012
Technology market specialist, ABI Research, believes that demand for wireless HDTV is set to increase, especially in places where it is difficult to install a wired display.

ABI expects installations of wireless HDTV to grow from less than 100,000 this year to 1 million by 2012.

The use of the technology is expected to grown in both the home entertainment and commercial market, where it could be used for applications such as digital signage.

At the moment, three wireless technologies are battling for supremacy – 5 GHz, 60 GHz, and ultra wideband (UWB).

While 5 GHz has the advantage of being more proven, UWB provides greater bandwidth over short distances, while 60 GHz allows high data rates but is still in its infancy.

ABI expects one of these technologies to take a clear lead over the next two or three years.
