Truphone comes to iPhone

Jan Harris

iPhone users can now make lower cost international calls via Truphone, after Apple made the service available at its new App store today.

Truphone can be downloaded to the iPhone with just a few clicks, and is free to download.

There are no monthly subscriptions or other charges, and users get £2 of free credit when they register.

Users of the service will be able to avoid roaming charges, which can be costly, when making calls from abroad.

Truphone calls are made over the Internet rather than over GSM.

It costs 3p per minute to make Truphone international calls to landlines in 40 countries, and 15p per minute to mobiles.

Calling mobiles in Canada, the USA and China, costs the lower 3p per minute rate.

Countries where the call rates apply include the UK, Brazil, Australia, Thailand, Japan, Russia, Hong Kong, and most European countries.
