Ten million homes to get super-fast broadband
by David Allen

BT will be investing one and half billion pounds into its broadband network, which will mean that something in the region of ten million homes will be able to receive super fast broadband.
Following the investment and installation of this new equipment, the services received by these customers will be very different to the service that they are already getting through the current network.
Once completed the fibre optic network has the potential to deliver broadband speeds between 40 Mbps and 100 Mbps, but the work is not expected to be finished until 2012.
BT does say that they will be deploying this fibre optic network in both rural areas and cities, however this is going to be dependent on the local authorities.
In areas where this fibre optic cable is not used, it is believed that broadband access will be provided through the BT 21CN ADSL2+ network which can offer speeds of up to 24 Mbps.
